The Ecobank Foundation, in line with its mission to improve the quality of life for people across Africa, and UNITLIFE have joined forces to prevent chronic malnutrition, a largely underfunded disease affecting 149 million children worldwide. Children who do not receive the nutrients they need during the first 1,000 days of their lives will suffer from chronic malnutrition, with irreversible consequences on the development of their bodies, brains, and immune systems.
1 in every 3 African children experience chronic malnutrition, preventing their developing brains from forming the neural connections they need to reach full potential. Together, we can protect their future. Help us #MakeTheConnection.
With a $60 contribution (which is about 33,000 XOF or 6,590 KES), you enable a woman to grow or buy nutritious foods covering an entire month of healthy meals. And because UNITLIFE only supports sustainable interventions, your contribution continues to have an impact well beyond that month.
UNITLIFE’s mission is to prevent chronic malnutrition. We work with Governments, nutrition groups and civil society, organizations to identify non-profit organizations which have previously demonstrated results in preventing chronic malnutrition. Then, we invite them to submit a project proposal, which is assessed by leading national and international experts. This assessment is submitted to UNITLIFE’s Executive Board, which includes the Ecobank Foundation. UNITLIFE’s Executive Board unanimously decides on the project to be funded, based on this independent assessment, ensuring a fair and transparent process.
UNITLIFE does not distribute food. Instead, we support communities in building food systems that allow people to grow or access the nutritious foods they need. For more information on UNITLIFE’s strategy, click here.
Your contribution will be invested in empowering women to grow and/or purchase foods rich in vitamins, minerals, proteins, for themselves and their children.
Concretely, with your contribution, we will:

We want to maximize the impact of your contribution. For each dollar invested, 92 cents go to the project:
UNITLIFE only takes 1% of each contribution to pay for the cost of managing the funds. The rest of the contribution is transferred to the implementing agency which may use no more than 7% as administrative costs. The remaining 92% directly serves project implementation.
Chronic malnutrition is one of the most underfunded diseases. It is an invisible disease, thus it gets less attention and less financing. Nonetheless, chronic malnutrition is a major global health issue and it one of the most effective ways to protect the human capital of the next generations.
UNITLIFE was created to raise awareness about this neglected disease and mobilize businesses and individuals to eradicate it in order to ensure a prosperous future for the next generation of children. UNITLIFE contributes to closing the funding gap to meet the Global Nutrition Targets by 2025.

The power of the individual is crucial. 350 million Africans have disposal income. If each of us could give US$ 1, we would raise US$ 350M, 82% of what is required to be raised from innovative fundraising sources to reduce the number of chronically malnourished children by 40% (from 165 million in 2012 to 99 million children in 2025 – as set by the World Health Assembly Global Targets 2025).
